Pure Energy Commences Testing of Proprietary Lithium Extraction Technology by Tenova Bateman Technologies
VANCOUVER, BC, CANANDA / ACCESSWIRE / January 5, 2014 / Pure Energy Minerals Limited (PE) (frankfurt:AHG) (the “Company” or “Pure Energy”) is pleased to announce that the Company has advanced its development strategy by the engagement of Tenova Bateman Technologies (“TBT”), a global leader in the development and application of advanced processing technologies, to conduct lithium recovery process testing of brine samples collected at Pure Energy’s Clayton Valley, Nevada Lithium Project. TBT will use their proprietary lithium processing and recovery technology (“LiSX(TM)”) which was developed at their research and development facility in Israel to conduct the testing.
The LiSX (TM) process is an advanced solvent extraction technology developed by TBT that efficiently extracts lithium from brine and various waste streams. This revolutionary ‘total solution’ combines lithium processing and recovery capabilities in an integrated process that eliminates the use of traditional large-scale evaporation ponds, resulting in a processing time of less than 12 hours with a remarkable 99% lithium recovery. Utilizing a small footprint with low energy and water requirements, the LiSX(TM) process allows for reinjection of the brine back into the ground after the lithium is extracted, resulting in a sustainable practice that is environmentally favorable and more competitive as compared to traditional methods. The LiSX(TM) process is versatile and may be rapidly reconfigured to produce various customized high-purity (>99.9%) lithium end-products, including carbonate, chloride and hydroxide.
The process has been successfully tested at TBT’s facility in Israel using numerous feed streams including lithium-rich brine and waste material streams including spent Li-ion battery material. Subject to successful testing, this technology will be a significant step towards a truly sustainable ‘cradle-to-cradle’ lithium battery industry. The strategic location of the Clayton Valley Lithium Brine Project is an ideal place to deploy this technology as Nevada is becoming a global powerhouse in advanced battery manufacturing, and it is proximal to end-user markets across western USA.
As Pure Energy advances the development of the Clayton Valley Lithium Brine Project, the characterization of the mineral reserve combined with the identification, testing and verification of cost-effective ‘total solution’ processing technologies are vital to success. “Leveraging clean technologies that maximize throughput and address the evolving lithium market demand, both in terms of production and recovery from waste, will position this project as a leader in the lithium space,” states Robert Mintak, Pure Energy’s CEO.
The testing is expected to be completed by Q1 2015.
